Work by contractor Madison Commercial Landscapes Inc. concluded on August 9th at the playground near the community garden with the restoration of the site (topsoil, seeding and matting the disturbance area) and removal of the orange construction fence.  The site is now officially open and ready for play!

Work under the Playgrounds - Group 2 contract at the remaining 5 park sites is anticipated to continue throughout the summer and early fall at the remaining 5 playground sites.

BACKGROUND:
Brittingham Park - Community Garden playground will be receiving new equipment, surfacing & edge restraint and benches in 2017!  Parks Division staff met with the neighborhood in late 2016 at the Bayview International Center for Education and the Arts to choose the playground equipment type, age range, colors and type of surfacing to be installed at the community garden playground location in 2017.

The playground replacement at the Brittingham Park Community Garden location will be part of a larger contract including playground replacements at five other park sites to be bid in April 2017 as part of the Playgrounds - Group 2 contract.  Updates regarding the bid, award and construction progress will be added to this site as they become available. Below is a summary of the meetings, along with the exhibits that were presented:

Brittingham Park Community Garden Playground Meeting
Session with youth at Bayview Center (5PM) and Public Meeting (6:30PM)
October 26, 2016
Bayview International Center for Education and the Arts (Upstairs Meeting Room)

At both sessions, attendees voted in favor of rubber mulch surfacing, 5-12 age range equipment and color options of purple posts and lime green handrails.  Equipment votes from each session indicated a majority preference for Landscape Structures equipment.  An image of this equipment and in the color options selected will be added to this page shortly.
