City Thanks MG&E Foundation

posted

Last night, the City's Common Council accepted a $40,000 donation from the Madison Gas and Electric (MG&E) Foundation to support a new City initiative dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness. The contribution, the first of two the Foundation will make, will offset costs at the City’s first urban campground at Dairy Drive, set up last fall to provide a safe alternative to living on City streets or in parks.

I want to thank the Madison Gas and Electric Foundation for their donation towards the City-permitted campground at Dairy Drive. The campground, set up to support 30 campers, has served nearly 50 people since it opened last November and a third of them have been successful in finding stable housing. That’s a very positive outcome. It really serves our community at large when public and private sector combine resources to try new approaches to address complex issues such as homelessness. I thank MG&E for being a leader in this regard and look forward to welcoming other partners as we continue to work to reduce and mitigate homelessness in our City.
