In 2015, the Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) administered a survey to all employees to evaluate the workplace culture and climate, particularly in areas of concern to employees of color. This is a first for both the Multicultural Affairs Committee and the City of Madison. A total of 708 employees responded to the survey.

Our Workplace Climate Survey Report presents the highlights of these survey results. Issues of concern include employees of color being treated differently because of their race, fear of retaliation if they report incidents, and a lack of growth and professional opportunities. Many of these issues also impacted white employees, though generally to a lesser extent.

Within the report, MAC has also made some preliminary recommendations including comprehensive planning and training about workplace inclusivity and improving opportunities and professional mobility for all employees.
