Annual Dog Park Spring Cleanup - Saturday, March 28
March 13, 2009
The annual volunteer spring cleanup will be held on Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m. to noon at local dog exercise parks in Madison and the surrounding communities.
"The spring cleanup is a great event for local dog owners to support their favorite dog parks while socializing with fellow dog-lovers," said Parks Superintendant Kevin Briski. "As always, we are pleased to be partnering with Dane County parks in this effort and the dog park program."
Volunteers are asked to bring a scooper to the park where they will be met by a team leader with garbage bags. Those interested in serving as team leaders for the cleanup should contact Dog Park Cleanup Coordinator Pete Blawat at (608) 516-8057.
Participating parks include those in the City of Madison (Warner, Quann, Brittingham and Sycamore), Dane County (Badger Prairie, Indian Lake, Prairie Moraine-Tower Site, Yahara Heights, Token Creek and Viking), Sun Prairie Pet Exercise Area and the Middleton Dog Park located on Hwy Q.

Madison Dog Parks Going Green
Solar lighting was installed in Warner, Sycamore and Quann dog parks. The installation was in response to user requests for more lighting at the dog parks. Staff explored various options to provide the requested lighting without adding to concerns of 'light pollution.'
Solar lighting was not only the most economical option, but fits in with the Parks Division's goals of being good stewards of our land. The solar ambient lighting is installed on the dog park kiosks/benches providing dog owners a lighted place to sit while their canine friends run and play. The lights will go on at dusk, and off at 10:00p.m. when the parks are closed.
The $19,000 lighting project costs are covered 100% by the dog park permit user fees.
