Overnight Fire on City's West Side
December 7, 2009
City of Madison firefighters responded to a structure fire on the City's far west side this morning at 1:10 a.m. Firefighters were called to 8301 Blackwolf Drive, near Junction Road and Old Sauk. On arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from a garage at the rear of the single family home.
Ladder Company 2 entered the front of the home to attack the fire from the interior, in an effort to prevent the spread of the fire into the living area.
There were three occupants home at the time. They reported hearing their dog barking and awoke to the sound of smoke alarms. All three evacuated the home. Two people were transported to UW Hospital. They were not believed to have life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters had the fire knocked down by 1:25. Fire was contained to the garage, though there was some light smoke damage to the home. The garage and its contents, including a single vehicle are expected to be a total loss, with a preliminary damage estimate of $50,000.
The cause is under investigation.
