Winter Recreation coming to an end

February 19, 2010

The Madison Parks Division trusts that community members and guests had a wonderful winter recreation season while enjoying cross-country skiing, sledding and ice skating at numerous Madison Park facilities. Based on weather patterns, extended daylight and long term forecast February is customarily the transition time when winter facilities conclude, and the Parks Division starts gearing up for Spring/Summer activities. In keeping with this transition period the Parks Division will be directing resources in the following way;
Tenney, Vilas, Westmorland and Elver ice rinks and will continue to be maintained and operate until conditions deteriorate. Neighborhood rinks (Olbrich, Warner, Garner and Goodman) will start changeover during the following weeks; Warner February 15 and Garner, Olbrich and Goodman February 22.

Madison Parks wishes to thank all of our Adopt Ice Teams who helped to make this season a success. We look forward to continued and expanded efforts next winter and invite other community members to join by contacting Steven Doniger, Community Services Manager at sdoniger@cityofmadison.com.

As for skiing, the Madison Parks Division has set a goal of extending the season through the end of February and will continue to groom ski trails as long as weather permits.
