April 18, 2013
May is Older Americans Month
During May, Older Americans Month, the Madison Senior Center appreciates and celebrates the contributions and achievements if older adults. This intergenerational event highlights older people as they are seen through the eyes of sixth graders. On Wednesday, May 8, from 3:15-4:30 pm, hear students from eight Madison Metropolitan School District middle schools read winning essays on: "My Best Older Friend" or "My Grandparents." This year the citywide essay contest involves 900 Madison sixth-grade students and is sponsored by the four Madison Coalitions of Older Adults and hosted by the Madison Senior Center.
Listen to the sincere reflections of the top eight young people, topped off with some fun social time featuring ice cream sundaes. Look for parents, Mayor Paul Soglin and Interim Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent Dr. Jane Belmore at the event. Mayor Soglin will announce the Top Boy and Top Girl Essay Winners.
Kindly register at 266-6581 and plan now to attend the celebration at the Madison Senior Center, 330 W. Mifflin Street, Madison, WI 53703.
