Detached Garage Catches Fire, House Not Damaged

May 17, 2013

City of Madison Firefighters were called to 1010 South Thompson Drive at 6:21 pm for a garage fire.

When firefighters arrived, crews noticed light smoke coming from the peak of the garage. As they approached the structure, they saw fire coming from the bottom of a side entry door. Firefighters forced entry and found smoke banked three feet from the ground. Fire crews removed two portable propane tanks and quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters made a quick stop, but the garage and its contents were damaged. No vehicles were parked in the garage at the time of the fire. The garage is about 40 feet from the residence and was not damaged.

The fire caused $5,000 in damage and is under investigation.

No one was injured.
