Public Health Announces Immunization Clinic Schedule Changes

July 2, 2013

Change also Involves Closing of Some Clinic Locations

Public Health-Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) has been running free immunization clinics for many years as part of one of its core missions - the prevention of the spread of communicable diseases. Up until July 1st, regular walk-in clinics have been operating out of our East Washington and South Park locations as well as in four other Dane County sites. As of July 1st, the clinics held in Stoughton and Verona will be discontinued due to low demand. Clinics will remain operating in Sun Prairie, Middleton and at our East Washington and South Park sites in Madison.
PHMDC continues to offer free immunizations to children through age 18 who do not have any health insurance, or do have Medical Assistance or Badger Care, or who only have 'major medical insurance' (only covering hospitalization with no preventive care coverage), or are Native Americans or Alaska Natives.

PHMDC can no longer immunize ANY children or adults who have private health insurance covering vaccines, even if they must meet a deductible or have a co-pay. If you have health insurance that covers vaccines, call your provider to be immunized. These eligibility definitions and restrictions follow relatively recent CDC requirements which local health departments are obliged to follow.

Public Health can provide some immunizations for uninsured adults. Call or check out our website (link below) for more details.

Vaccines are safe and effective, and prevent many diseases that can have serious complications and may even be fatal. The more people in the community who are immunized, the higher degree of protection the community has from the spread of such vaccine-preventable communicable diseases. So vaccination is a healthy choice for you, your children, and your community.
