MADISON SUSPENDS REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION

posted

The City of Madison has suspended refuse and recycling collection for the remainder of Thursday February 16th. Collection was halted due to the heavy volume of snow that was falling in the city. “It was too dangerous to keep our crews on the street,” Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann. “For the safety of our workers and the public we felt it was best to suspend collection for the remainder of the day.” Streets Division refuse and recycling crews will resume collection in the Thursday refuse and recycling districts on Friday February 17th. When they finish collecting material in the Thursday areas they will move to the Friday collection districts. “If we are not able to complete collection in the Thursday and Friday collection we will work overtime on Saturday to complete this weeks refuse and recycling collections,” Dreckmann said. “We need the help of Madison residents to make sure we are able to collect their refuse and recycling this week,” Dreckmann said. “Residents in the Thursday districts are asked to get their recycling carts and refuse containers out of the snow so our crews can get to them.” “Residents in the Friday collection districts should wait to place their materials at the curb until they have been able to clear their driveway and are able to get their material to the curb,” Dreckmann said. “Because we will be working in the Thursday area before we go to the Friday districts, residents can wait to get their material out until Friday morning.” “Once plows have cleared residential streets, residents can place their recycling carts and refuse containers in the gutter right next to their driveways,” Dreckmann said. “Residents can also clear a space next to the street to place their material. Refuse and recycling containers should never be put on top of snow banks or left on side walks.” There will be no large items collected for the remainder of the week. Large item collection should resume next week.
