Cypress SprayPark Wins State Award

posted

The Cypress SprayPark, Madison's first public spray park, has won the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association Park Section Design Award for 2007. WPRA annually recognizes outstanding new or renovated park facilities. All entries are judged on the same criteria: Goals & Objectives of the Facility, Effective Use of Resources, and the Facility Design as a whole. "We feel very honored that our peers in the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association have chosen Cypress SprayPark for this award," said Jim Morgan, Madison Park Superintendent. Cypress SprayPark, located in Madison's Southside on the corner of Cypress Way and Magnolia Lane, is a new spray park that offers kids a fun, safe and cost-free place to meet friends and get wet! It features both a wet and a dry play area. The wet play area has misting and low spray water features for toddlers and pre-schoolers and rain shower and cascading water features for adolescents. The wet play area is fenced and unlocked daily in the summer months by a park attendant. The season for the wet spray area corresponds with Goodman Pool's open season which is first day of Madison Metropolitan School Districts summer break to Labor Day. The dry play area features traditional play structures and swings mostly geared to toddlers and pre-schoolers. This dry play area is open to the public year round. The entire park is landscaped with grass, trees, native flowerbeds and a rain garden. The spray park was a great success. Over 2500 patrons visited the spray park in the first month of operation.
