  • Full-day permit @ $13.00
  • Half-day permit @ $7.00
  • Purchase in-person at the Parking Division Office or by mail.
  • Call (608) 266-4761 for further details.

A-2

  Handicapped Parking (On-Street)
  • When parking in a parking space designated for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) a valid, state-issued "Parking for PWDs" hangtag or license plate must be properly displayed.
  • The hangtag or license plate exempts the PWD from parking fees or time limit restrictions ONLY when parking at a meter with a time limit of 30 minutes or longer.
  • The individual to whom the hangtag or plates were issued must be in the vehicle when it is parked and when the vehicle leaves the parking space.

A-3

  Meter Enforcement

Meters located on City streets are enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Many parking meters note that they are not enforced on "City Holidays". City holidays are as follows:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday (the third Monday in January)
  • Memorial Day (the last Monday in May)
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

It is important to note that there are more holidays that are classified as Federal Holidays (i.e. President's Day, Veteran's Day) that are NOT city holidays.  Parking meters ARE enforced on these days!

Be aware that some meters have special restrictions such as "No Stopping, Standing or Parking" during stated hours of peak traffic.

A-4

  Malfunctioning Meters

Reporting a malfunctioning parking meter:

  • Note the meter number (displayed on the meter) and the location of the meter.
  • Note what happened or did not happen when coins were deposited in the meter.
    • What coins did you use? Quarters? Nickels? Dimes?
    • How many of each?
    • How much time did you receive for each coin?
  • Call (608) 266-4761 as soon as possible to report the meter malfunction.
    • Have the meter number
    • Have your license plate number.

Meter will be checked/repaired as soon as possible.

If you receive a ticket:

  • Call (608) 266-4761 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. two working days after your initial call to see if the meter was found to be malfunctioning.

  • If the meter was found to be malfunctioning, the ticket can be dismissed.

  • If it was not found to be malfunctioning, you must pay the ticket or call (608) 266-4170 for an appointment to contest it in court.

A-5

  Time Limits at Meters

Parking meters are intended for short-term parking.

  • The purpose of time limits on parking meters is to ensure that parking spaces regularly become available for customers of area businesses and visitors to the area.
  • It is illegal to deposit additional coins in the meter after the time limit has been reached.
  • You must leave a parking space when the time limit posted on the meter has been reached.
