Weddings in Madison Parks

How to get there: Directions from Mapquest
For reservations: (608) 266-4712

The Gates of Heaven, built in 1863, is the fourth oldest surviving synagogue building in the nation. In 1970, the building was moved to James Madison Park. Owned by the City of Madison Parks Division, the Gates of Heaven contributes to the beauty and diversity of downtown Madison and is a popular site for weddings and gatherings.

  • The seating capacity of the Gates of Heaven is 98 people. (Fire Code Regulation) Folding chairs are located in the back of the room and in the basement.
  • The small upstairs seating area provides a wonderful birds-eye view for your guests.
  • To maintain the beauty of the building, no nails, staples, or other fasteners that will harm the walls or floors may be used in this or any park shelter. The Madison Parks Division recommends using free standing decorations.
