Hiestand Park Playground - 2018
Hiestand Park Playground - 2018

Replacement of the playground at Hiestand Park is included in the Parks capital budget submittal for 2019!

Parks begins the planning process for playground replacements in advance of the finalization of the budget (which is anticipated to occur in November 2018) in order to receive public input and develop design documents for bidding in early 2019.

Please contact Project Manager Sarah Lerner at (608) 261-4281 or slerner@cityofmadison.com if you would like to provide input on the project but are unable to attend the meeting or have other questions.

As a reminder, if the neighborhood has interest in fundraising to support the playground replacement project please contact Sarah Lerner to describe your fundraising intent/goal by December 1, 2018 and then contact the Madison Parks Foundation to set up your account.

A follow-up meeting to review & vote on the specific equipment & colors for the playground was held:
Hiestand Park Playground Meeting #2; 6-8PM
Monday, January 7th, 2019
Whitehorse Middle School

The first opportunity for input from the neighborhood on the design of the playground was held at:

2019 Playgrounds - Group 2 Workshop
Monday, November 12 at 6:00 PM - Emerson Elementary School Cafeteria (2421 East Johnson Boulevard)

At this session the replacement of the existing equipment, surfacing and benches were discussed during the break-out/table session with Parks staff.  Attendees at the session learned that all of the equipment, surfacing, and benches will be replaced with the project. Attendees cast the majority vote for Burke as the manufacturer to develop two proposals for the follow-up meeting in early 2019, and also voted to use a portion of the playground budget to include natural play elements.  Attendees strongly agreed on wood mulch as the new surfacing material.  An accessible path will be added connecting the playground to the existing park sidewalk.
