Madison Park Shelters
2010 Reservations begin November 10, 2009

The Madison Park staff is working through internal processes and fee structures to make improvements to our shelter reservations.  The 2010 reservations Madison Parks shelters and the Gates of Heaven will begin November 10, 2009.

Madison Parks has 18 shelters nestled in Madison’s unique and scenic parks.  Each shelter has a restroom, electricity and water and are an ideal location for your graduation party, family reunion, company picnic or wedding.

There is a high demand for Park shelters so don’t wait to reserve your date!

New for 2010
A number lottery system will be instated to ensure fairness for the patrons wishing to reserve the more popular shelters and summer weekend dates.  Numbers will be drawn beginning at 7:30a.m., and in-person reservations will begin at 8:00a.m.   Phone-in reservations will begin at 9:00a.m.   Because of the lottery system, it will not be in anyone’s best interest to arrive at the Madison Parks office before 7:00a.m.

Long-standing annual special events will be reserved in advance of the Park Shelter reservation date.  Those 2010 event dates will be posted on the Madison Parks website by November 2, 2009 for the 2010 season.

Trash/Refuse:  The Parks Division provides refuse containers in all parks. All park users are expected to pick up their trash and dispose of them in the proper containers.

Recycling:  Madison Parks Department encourages recycling away from home.  Some of the major park shelters do have recycling containers.  In those that don'e, please take home the recyclable material you bring to the park.

Alcohol-free Parks:  Tenney Park, James Madison Park, Brittingham Park, Demetral Park, Lake Edge Park and Penn Park are alcohol -free parks.  If you are reserving these parks for an event, you will need a permit to bring alcohol to these parks.

Handicap Accessibility
All parks with reservable shelters that have OFF-street parking have the correct number of accessible parking stalls for the size of the parking lot.  All of the shelters are serviced with accessible paths leading from the parking lot to the shelter and restrooms.  If the reservable park/shelter only has ON-street parking, it will have an accessible path leading from the public sidewalk to the shelter and restroom.

All park restrooms are accessible according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  However, the masonry or concrete walls in some of the older park shelters were prohibitive of renovation.  Where possible and economically feasible, the restrooms have been altered to accommodate wheelchair-bound patrons. When a restroom is built new, the restrooms ARE accessible and the stalls are wide enough.

Shelters with best shelter and restroom accessibility are: Olin Park, Elver Park (new), Warner Park

Park Staff highly recommends that before reserving a shelter, that you be sure to visit it in advance.

Parking is prohibited on the grass.  Violators will be subject to ticketing.
