CITY SERVICES &
PROTECTIVE POLICE
SERVICES
Businesses on the State Street Mall/Capitol Concourse receive services that businesses located in other areas of the City do not receive. This chapter explains the basic services and the special services.

Mall Maintenance

On the States Street Mall/Capitol Concourse, city crews sweep or plow all walkways and empty the trash receptacles daily. The bus shelters are cleaned twice a day. Benches, bike racks, light poles and kiosks are the responsibility of the maintenance crews. The warm weather seasons are especially busy times for the maintenance crews with 9 fountains, 43 flower beds, 29 shrub planters and 59 grass areas to plant and care for. Seasonal plantings and light displays for over 200 events are handled by the Mall Maintenance crew.

Call 266-6031 or 266-4394 to contact the Mall Maintenance crew. Their work hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can leave messages for them any time of the day.

Snow Removal

Call the Building Inspection Unit at 266-4551, with snow and ice complaints.
Be sure to have the address of the property.

City crews will sand, salt and plow streets as often as necessary during the Winter.

The City's Mall/Concourse maintenance crews clear sidewalks of property located on the State Street Mall or the Capitol Concourse.

Owners of businesses not on the Mall/Concourse are responsible for clearing the sidewalks adjacent to their businesses. The full width of the sidewalk must be cleared no later than noon on the day following a snowstorm. If the sidewalk is not cleared, a City Building Inspector will issue a $49.40 ticket immediately. If the sidewalk is not cleared 24 hours after the ticket, a city crew will shovel the sidewalk. A charge for the city crew's time plus an administration fee is added to the real estate tax bill.
