BUSINESS ASSISTANCE SERVICES:
There are many
sources of help which are available to the businesses in
Downtown Madison--many at no or low cost.
Small Business
Access Line:
A
telephone call to the SBAL connects you to a small business
counselor. Without leaving your business or home, you can get
answers to specific business-related questions, discover what
resources are available, obtain additional information by mail,
or request one-on-one counseling or small business training
programs. This free, confidential service is available
Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. The SBAL is operated by the
University of Wisconsin--School of Business and partially funded
by the City of Madison.

Small Business
Development Center:
The
University of Wisconsin's SBDC, recognized nationally for its
quality, provides one-to-one counseling for businesses. The SBDC,
in the UW's School of Business, taps the University's expertise
in management, product development, engineering, law and other
disciplines which affect business. In addition to counseling,
the SBDC conducts workshops and seminars.

City of Madison
Capital Revolving Fund:
The
City provides below market-rate interest loans for real estate
projects in the Downtown Isthmus area. The maximum loan amount
is $250,000 and the minimum amount is $50, 000.

Madison
Development Corporation:
MDC
provides loans to businesses in the City of Madison. MDC has
several loan programs. The business loan program can be used for
real estate, building improvements, leasehold improvements and
working capital. The contract loan program is available to
minority and women owned businesses to secure corporate or
government contracts. MDC administers the SBA 504 loan program
for fixed asset, long-term, low down payment financing for fixed
assets.

also offers subordinate financing in cooperation with other
financial institutions.

Greater
Williamson Area Business Association:
A
business advocacy voice for the area for over 11 years, GWABA
strives to create and convey a collective voice, encourage
business development activities and policies, and to ascertain
and honor the concerns of area residents. The GWABA charter area
extends from the Square to the Yahara River and from the north
side of East Washington Avenue to Lake Monona.
Monthly
meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings start at 7:30 am and
are open to everyone. Membership is open to any employee,
business person, property owner or resident within the charter

Greater State
Street Business Association:
GSSBA
works to create a safe, public-sensitive and innovative State
Street area, emphasizing the area's individuality and
uniqueness. Examples of GSSBA activities i
nclude
the annual Maxwell Street Days sales event in July and the 'Life
After Work... And All That Jazz' series of light jazz
performances in August and September. Production of the State
Street map, installation of the winter lights during the holiday
season, and cooperative advertising are other activities GSSBA
undertakes to support the businesses and property owners.
Membership
is open to any business or property owner within the State
Street Mall/Capitol Concourse area. Monthly meetings are open to
general membership and the public.

Downtown Madison, Inc.:
Over
500 business belong to this organization. DMI promotes Downtown
Madison through marketing and specific development research
planning and projects. DMI meets the fourth Thursday morning of
every month where topics of concern to the Downtown are
presented.
