Incident Report for Case #2013-139242

Incident Type

Incident Date

05/15/2013 - 8:40 AM

202 S. Park St. (Meriter Hospital)

Samuel D. Clay, age 49, Baraboo
Mr. Clay was arrested for Theft

Samuel D. Wright, Jr., age 46, Madison
Mr. Wright, Jr., was arrested for Theft.

If the getaway car had been a bit more nondescript, a little more generic: say a dark colored four-door sedan, then perhaps the thieves would have stood a better chance.

Instead surveillance cameras clearly showed them fleeing the crime scene in a large white delivery type van, with a sheet of taped-up plastic over the passenger side window.

Not only that, but there was a good deal of writing on the van. For instance: on the hood there were these words: "Mamma's Man" and "Lil Skee."

The men inside had just lifted 11 watches, worth nearly $300, from a gift shop inside Meriter Hospital.  It was yesterday, about 8:40 in the morning.

An investigating officer took the surveillance photos to the MPD's South District station, and a sergeant, who saw the images, said he just saw the "Mamma's Man" van parked at a fast food restaurant a couple of blocks away.

Officers made the arrests a short time later, in a parking lot near the restaurant, just as the suspects were about to drive away.
