Incident Report for Case #2013-175515

Incident Type

Incident Date

06/14/2013 - 3:13 PM

303 S. Livingston St.

Dylan R. Giernoth M/W dob 05/18/90-

Officers responded to citizen reports of a male trying to break into cars.  One group of citizens in the 300 block of S. Livingston St.  and another group of citizens in the 300 block of Patterson St. witnessed Giernoth riding his bicycle next to parked cars trying the door handles as he rode past.  When he found an unlocked car he would enter it.

When officers spotted Giernoth, he fled on his bike and a foot pursuit ensued.  Officers ended up setting up a perimeter around the Hancock, Wilson, Franklin, Main streets area and locating him in a backyard where he was taken into custody.  Witnesses said he entered at least five different unlocked vehicles.   He is being charged with Resisting an Officer and five counts of Attempted Theft.

A reminder once again, to please lock your vehicle when you park it.  A simple locked door was enough to dissuade Giernoth from entering vehicles.  Also, please remember, do not leave any valuables or purses in plain sight in the vehicle.  At a minimum, lock them in your trunk
