Incident TypeTraffic Incident
Incident Date06/28/2013 - 7:50 AM
Address1600 Regent Street
DetailsOn 6/28/2013, at approximately 7:50am, A Madison Metro Bus 876 was travelling eastbound on Regent Street, and as the route 6 bus neared Lathrop St, a bicyclist turned in front of the bus and was impacted. The 23-year-old bicyclist was immediately transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The scene Sergeant of The Madison Police Department stated "Had it not been for the keen attention paid by the 49-year-old bus driver, the bus would have completely run the bicyclist over!"
This matter continues to be investigated, as video footage is currently being reviewed, but this scenario could have resulted in a much different outcome. Bicyclists are reminded to pay special attention to all vehicles on the roadway, and be especially careful when crossing any thoroughfare. Wearing protective gear (Helmet and reflective vest) is always a good idea when operating your bicycle, in order that all vehicle operators can see you at all times.
