Incident Report for Case #2013-198026

Incident Type

Animal Complaint - Bite

Incident Date

07/02/2013 - 11:05 AM

10 block of Katherine Court

Meagan L. Kroon, 24-year-old female of Madison, WI
CHARGES: Permitting Animal To Injure Person and No Dog License

39-year-old male

A Madison Parking Enforcement Officer was dispatched to deal with a vehicle that had blocked some residential mailboxes and parked too close to a fire hydrant, when all of a sudden an aggressive Pit Bull escaped from a nearby residence, and began to jump on the officer.  The officer turned his back to the dog, and the Pit Bull proceeded to bite the officer in the back at least two times.  The officer had a plastic electronic citation generator in his hand, and was left with no option but to use that device to strike the dog and prevent any further attack.  An anonymous caller stated that the officer was bleeding from his back and needed medical attention.  The Madison Fire Department immediately responded, and the officer was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment for the significant injury.

Kroon was cited for the violations noted, and the Pit Bull was quarantined within the owner's residence.  The public is reminded to pay close attention to your animal and their ability to move around freely without restraint.  Accidents such as these could have long term impacts on a victim, and could result in a variety of legal challenges for the responsible owner.
