DetailsMadison Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Onsgard Road reference a disturbance/ fight, but were not sure if it were only verbal or physical. Officers attempted contact at an apartment that was pointed out as the source of the problem, with an intoxicated James York answering the door and saying he had no idea why police had responded. York retreated back inside of the apartment, and refused to answer door. When police heard a female yelling for help, officers forced their way into the unit, and took York immediately into custody.
Officers confiscated a 12-guage shot gun round from the pocket of York, and interviews pointed to York confronting several people in the parking lot with a loaded shotgun, demanding at least 3 people go back to his apartment against their will. York continued to yell at all parties about money that he stated had been stolen from him, and he wanted it back. York racked the shotgun, inside the living room of the residence numerous times, and continued to pace back and forth, as he threatened to shot people if he didn't get his money. Everyone was told that no one was allowed to leave. While the entry of the officers brought this situation under control, the victims all stated they feared for their lives and felt York was capable of shooting them. A 12-guage Remington shotgun was recovered from the residence as well.
