DetailsMadison Police responded to a disturbance in the 4700 block of Thurston Lane, and contacted the 51-year-old victim outside. The victim stated she got into a verbal argument with Helen Smalley, reference a key to their apartment being given to an unknown person. Smalley allegedly got upset about her roommate attempting to tell her what to do (by way of who was allowed to have access to their shared apartment), and the argument turned physical between the two parties.
It initially began with pushing and shoving, and quickly resulted in Smalley swinging a barbell at the victim. The victim barricaded herself inside of her locked bedroom, with her 9-year-old grandson, while Smalley stabbed the bedroom door with a 12-inch knife. The victim managed to retreat the residence before police arrived. Police reviewed all information, and arrested Smalley on charges listed above.
