DetailsA MPD officer was on routine patrol early this morning when he saw a car stopped in roadway in the 100 block of W. Wilson St. The concerned driver's horn was blaring. Quickly approaching was another car, and it was traveling the wrong way on the 1-way street. The officer watched as the driver of the offending car swerved around the stopped vehicle. He avoided a crash, and signaled to the other driver by sticking his hand out of the window; the middle finger was extended. The officer attempted to stop the suspect, but called off a pursuit as the intoxicated man ran red lights while heading east on Williamson St. at speeds estimated at 65 to 75 mph. A Monona Police officer next spotted the car and attempted to stop it. The driver pulled over in the 300 block of Davidson St. He got out, and took off running. A Madison officer (not the one who observed the infractions on W. Wilson St.) was able to track down and tackle the suspect in the 3900 block of Dempsey Rd. He faces a series of tentative charges, some of which are listed above.
