Incident Date08/14/2013 - 2:14 PM
AddressEast Washington Avenue
DetailsOfficers responded to an east side area hotel reference a man acting strangely. When officers arrived, they received complaints of a man who was a patron of the hotel, and offering large quantities of money for people to dance with him. It was reported that the 49-year-old male held up $100 bills, and offered hotel staff members up to $500 per dance. The hotel administration did not feel comfortable with this kind of activity, and thought police should be contacted for assistance.
Officers determined that the 49-year-old male was in possession of an astronomical amount of United States currency, and his safety became a serious concern. Officers offered the subject a ride, but emphatically persuaded him to first stop at a local bank, and deposit the funds; understanding that carrying large amounts of cash in a duffle bag could prove to place this individual in a precarious position of potentially being robbed.
Not only did officers standby with this individual while he secured the funds at a bank, but assisted the US Veteran; connecting him with local resources to aid him a variety of other ways. Housing and money management were two immediate concerns the veteran needed help with, and it is hopeful he will be able to manage dealing with these particular issues without involving any other types of problems.
