DetailsA woman, who had just shot heroin, went unconscious behind the wheel while driving on busy Fish Hatchery Rd. Tuesday morning. Witnesses told police the driver crossed all four lanes of traffic, narrowly missing other cars, before jumping a curb, and nearly going into Wingra Creek. She was arrested for her 5th offense of driving under the influence. The remorseful and cooperative 45-year old told an officer she realizes she has a problem, but has no insurance and has been unable to kick the heroin habit on her own.
Almost every week officers and paramedics are responding to heroin overdoses in the Madison area, and the epidemic has shown no signs of subsiding.
