Incident Date09/06/2013 - 9:44 PM
Address1400 block Theresa Ter
The preliminary investigation indicates a 15-year old male fired a gun and the woman struck by a bullet was likely an unintended target. At the time of the shooting, she had baby in her arms, and two children – ages 5 and 9 – were standing next to her. A caller to 911 indicated the woman was on the ground. When officers arrived they could find no pulse. They immediately began CCR and applying pressure to the 29-year old woman's wound. She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. None of the children were injured.
The 15-year old male was arrested Saturday on a tentative charge of 1st Degree Reckless Endangering Safety. He was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center.
The three officers, who were first on the scene and administered life saving measures, will be nominated for MPD life saving awards.
A 15-year old male is in custody in connection with the shooting. The MPD is working with the District Attorney's office with regards to a charging decision. The victim remains hospitalized. It is hoped more information can be released later today.
Madison Police responded to a weapon's offense where a 29 year old woman was located unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Officers administered CCR and the woman was revivied prior to being transported to a local ER.
Neighbors were helpful to police and are still cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Currently, Madison Police have identified two juveniles as people of interest. The incident does not appear to be random and there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Madison Police Department.
