Suspects were arrested and tentatively charged with Robbery.

UpdateDetectives have determined the robbery is drug related. The two suspects remain in custody, and it is hoped their names can be released this afternoon. Both are 17-years old. Initial information was that one suspect was 18.
Detectives have just learned this was not a random robbery, rather a crime targeted at this specific victim. Thanks to police dogs, the stolen backpack has been recovered.
Initial information indicates a 19-year old man was robbed – at gunpoint - of his backpack, wallet and keys by two suspects. The holdup happened in the 100 block of W. Gilman St. around 6:20 p.m.
MPD detectives believe a friend, or friends of the victim gave chase as the suspects fled on foot. The pursuit headed to Langdon Street, and one round was fired in the 100 block by one of the suspects. It is not known if the bullet was fired into the air, or at someone. Two suspects have been detained. One was captured by UW-Madison Police officers at a bus stop on Observatory Dr. A second suspect was located by MPD officers near the intersection of Gilman Street and Henry Street. More information will be released as it becomes available.
A witness indicated a suspect may have fled into the downtown MATC campus (Madison College), 211 North Carroll St. The school has been searched by police officers and no suspect was found.
The weapon involved in the incident was recovered.

DetailsThe MPD is investigating a report of at least one gun shot being fired in the 100 block of Langdon St. At this time there are no reports of injuries. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
