Incident Date09/14/2013 - 9:10 AM
Address1000 block Moorland Rd.
Victim(s)Female, age 60, Madison
DetailsA Moorland Rd. resident recently reported a possible computer scam after allowing a "technician" to remotely run her laptop computer. The 60-year old had gotten a phone call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft. He told her Microsoft was doing some tracking and determined she had malware (malicious software) on her computer. The "technician" asked her to go to the internet site LogMeIn123.com. He then provided her a pass code. She entered it and he began to run her computer. While doing so he offered to sell her several high priced security programs. She declined, and following the phone call became worried. The woman did some Google searching and found there have been scams around the world with hackers using LogMeIn123.com - a legitimate company - to gain access to victims' computers. The woman has banking and credit card information contained within her computer, but so far has not been able to detect anything is amiss.
