UpdateA suspect has been identified and is in police custody.
The investigation revealed that Joseph Ross, 21 Madison resident, was handling a 9mm handgun inside his apartment in the 100 block of Kennedy Heights. The firearm was discharged unintentionally and the bullet entered a nearby apartment which was occupied by adults and several children. Ross was under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, no persons were injured in the adjacent apartment. The handgun was originally concealed at a location within apartment complex and was found by officers and investigators at the scene.
Ross has been arrested on tentative charges of 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.

DetailsA female with children present reported that at approx. 7:25pm she heard a loud noise and a bullet went through her wall in the 100 block of Kennedy Heights. There were no injuries. It appears at this point that the shot was fired from the adjacent apartment at Kennedy Heights.
The nearby residences were evacuated and a perimeter was set up around the adjacent Kennedy Heights apartment. Patrol personnel , the North Community Policing Team and on duty SWAT personnel made entry into the apartment. A bullet casing was located. Nobody in apartment. Investigation is ongoing.
