Incident Date10/13/2013 - 11:15 PM
Address3019 E. Washington Ave (Mobile Gas Station)
DetailsOn October 13th, 2013 at 11:15 PM the Madison Police responded to a report of a stolen car taken from the parking lot of the Mobile Gas Station at 3019 E. Washington Ave. The suspect took the vehicle as it was left running in the lot while the owner went into the store. The stolen vehicle description was provided to the 911 Center that promptly relayed the information to officers in the area. Soon after, an officer assigned to the Central District observed the stolen vehicle as it traveled towards Blair St near John Nolen Dr.
When the officer attempted to position himself behind the vehicle, the suspect accelerated at a high rate of speed traveling outbound on John Nolen Dr. The suspect attempted to elude the officer, and reached speeds estimated in upwards of 100 mph on the causeway. The vehicle traveled just over a mile on John Nolen Dr with a clear pathway and very minimal traffic as it pulled a good distance from the officer who was forced to operate at slower speeds. The driver lost control of the vehicle after negotiating a turn onto W. Lakeside St. He then abandoned the car and fled on foot along the railroad tracks.
A search for the suspect was conducted which included the use of a K-9. He remains at large. The victim believed that the suspect was dropped off by another vehicle at the Mobile Gas Station just prior to the theft. A vehicle matching this description, a white Cadillac sedan, was observed by the officer as being ahead of the fleeing vehicle when the stop was initiated. The suspect may have been picked up after fleeing on foot.
No other property was damaged and no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.
The suspect description is limited: described as a male, unknown race
