Details

An older Madison couple was robbed by a man who had earlier helped them load groceries into their minivan. The husband and wife, both of whom are 82 years old, had encountered the criminal outside of Capitol Centre Market, 111 N. Broom St., Sunday afternoon. At first, he asked for a few dollars in exchange for his work. Next, he convinced them to give him a ride to Catalpa Rd. Once they arrived, the stranger threatened to hurt the husband if he did not give up his wallet. Fearful, the husband turned it over, and the robber fled on foot. The couple returned to their home and called police. Both were somewhat confused over just how and why the crime had happened. The preliminary investigation indicates a second man may also have gotten into the victim's van and traveled to the south side location.
