Incident Report for Case #2013-348132

Incident Type

Incident Date

11/04/2013 - 2:54 PM

3525 University Ave. (Radio Shack)

Reynaldo Hudson, age 61, no permanent address
Suspect was arrested for Retail Theft.

The chances of getting away with the caper were not good. First: The entire crime was captured on videotape and the suspect had apparently done nothing to really conceal his identity. Second: The getaway car was not an automobile at all, but a Madison Metro bus.

Monday afternoon, a clerk at Radio Shack, 3525 University Ave., contacted the MPD to explain how a thief had just walked out of the store with a 32" LED TV. It was still in the box, and the man was last seen walking toward the downtown, along University Ave. Since this is a major bus route, Madison Metro was contacted to check to see whether a man carrying a boxed TV set had just gotten on a bus. The answer was yes, one had, and he had now just gotten off a bus at the Capitol Square.

That is where arresting officers made contact with the suspect. They asked him about the TV set he was carrying. "What about it?" he responded. When pressed, he said he did not have a "story" to tell them about how he came to be walking around with stolen merchandise. He was taken to jail on a tentative charge of retail theft.
