Incident Type

Incident Date

11/20/2013 - 6:39 PM

702 N. Midvale Blvd. (Macy's)

Karla J. Flores-Sosa, age 17, Madison
Female, age 15, Madison
Suspects were arrested for Felony Retail Theft.

Their plan was to shower their boyfriends with gifts, but it fell apart after a Macy's Hilldale loss prevention officer stopped the teens as they attempted to take off with more than $2,600 worth of stolen clothing Wednesday evening. Earlier, the astute security staff member watched as the young women pushed a cart around the store. They loaded it full of merchandise and then spent 45 minutes in a fitting room. When they emerged, bags they had brought to the store were now very full, and there were still some clothing items in the cart. They made no attempt to pay as they took all of the ill-gotten merchandise out of the store. That's when the loss prevention officer moved in. One teen ended up at the Juvenile Reception Center, the other at the Dane County Jail. One told a police officer, that in hindsight, now that they had been caught, the plan to steal gifts for their boyfriends was actually a dumb idea.
