Incident Report for Case #2013-385117

Incident Type

Check Person

Incident Date

12/09/2013 - 2:05 PM

Russett Road

It was someone from Building Inspection who contacted the MPD out of concern for a west side man's welfare. There had been some discussion, during a phone conversation, regarding snow shoveling. The city employee came away with the impression that the man on the other end of the call was possibly suicidal.

Officers went to check on him, and the 52-year old told them he was not going to harm himself. He said tried to convey, to the city employee, that "it's not a surprise that the suicide rate among veterans" is so high. The resident told officers he is a disabled veteran, and - right now - he is very frustrated with all governmental agencies.

He claims his health is in decline and feared he was about to be cited again for not clearing his walks - a task he told the officer he cannot perform.

The man said he had tried contacting various agencies to get help, but kept getting referred elsewhere. He says that's why he made the comment to building inspection. He was just plain frustrated, about not being able to get any assistance.

The officer told him she would assist. She tried calling several agencies on the man's behalf, and ended up leaving messages.

Meanwhile, a second officer decided to take immediate action to alleviate the man's stress and frustration.

In the spirit of the season, he shoveled the walks.
