Incident Report for Case #2013-000000

Incident Type

Incident Date

12/18/2013 - 1:35 PM

211 South Carroll St. (Madison Police Department)

There appears to be an attempt by criminals to cash in on Mega Millions jackpot fever. An older Madison woman contacted the MPD's Self Report Unit this afternoon saying she had just gotten a call from "Tom Young." He claimed to be with Mega Millions, and told the woman she had won $250,000 and a new 2014 Mercedes-Benz. In order to receive the prizes she first needed to pay "IRS service taxes" and a $325 registration fee. "Mr. Young" did not get much further with his pitch. The astute Madisonian told him she would need to talk with her lawyer and her police department to verify what he said was true. "Mr. Young" abruptly hung up.
