Robert E. Garel, 55-year-old male of Madison, WI
CHARGES: Theft, Disorderly Conduct, Probation Violation

Walgreens and Female Employee

On 12/17/2013, Madison Police responded to Walgreens reference a subject who stole merchandise from the store, and had attacked an employee. Officers arrived, and contacted the suspect Robert Garel. According to store employees, Garel was inside Walgreens, and suspiciously continued to fidget with items on the shelf. Garel was carrying a plastic bag, and an employee asked if Garel wanted to leave his bag behind the counter for safe keeping. Garel then handed over his bag to the employee, went to an adjacent isle of the store, and concealed air fresheners in the pocket of his coat.  The employee confronted Garel about the theft.

Garel turned over the stolen items, but wanted to obtain his bag and leave. The employee refused, believing that merchandise inside of the bag was also stolen as well. Garel came behind the counter, where the employee was holding the bag, and began shouting "Give me back my bag"!  The employee threatened to hit Garel with the air fresheners if he didn't get away from her, and police were immediately called.  Police arrived, and took Garel into custody.  Other stolen items were found in the bag that Garel had been in possession of earlier.
