A theft suspect left a stolen car at a Pflaum Rd. gas station Saturday night, and fled on foot after taking a woman's purse off the front seat of her truck. The 49-year old victim was pumping gas at the BP and did not see the thief open her passenger door. However, an alert clerk spotted the crime. When police arrived they found the stolen car.

The Honda Civic had previously been connected to an earlier gas drive-off, and belongs to a 36-year old Madison woman. It was stolen Christmas morning after she left it running outside of her Londonderry Dr. home for a few minutes, letting it warm up.

Now it was abandoned, and the suspect was on the run. A short time later, a concerned citizen was calling in to report a suspicious man lurking around vehicles parked in the 1300 block of Tompkins Dr. He was attempting to get someone to give him a ride. He matched the description of the thief, the one the observant clerk had provided police.

Officers searched the area and located a suspect. He had the victim's cell phone and cash in his pocket, as well as a key to the stolen car. He would not say where he tossed the victim's purse.
