A suspect in a Christmas day cell phone theft was arrested yesterday following a MPD investigation. Mr. Quincy R. Thompson, age 18, Madison, initially tried to deny culpability, but then turned quiet when an officer told him there was surveillance video of the crime.

He is accused of taking a cashier's smart phone as she was checking people out at the Family Dollar, 2825 E. Washington Ave., around 10:35 a.m. on December 25th.

The 22-year old victim had placed her phone on a shelf near where she was working and did not realize it had been taken until she went to retrieve it. Fortunately for her, and for police, the theft was digitally captured.

Utilizing camera images, police were able to put a name with the face, leading to yesterday's arrest.
