Update

The MPD will ask the Dane County District Attorney to charge a 40-year old Reedsburg man with two counts of robbery after he was connected to a couple of our recent bank robberies.

A MPD K9 helped locate valuable evidence following the February 21st holdup at Wells Fargo Bank on East Towne Blvd. The evidence helped detectives identify Mr. Chad A. Legner as a suspect in the crime. He has also been connected to the February 3rd robbery of a U.S. Bank branch, also on East Towne Blvd.

Mr. Legner was taken into custody on a Sauk County probation warrant on the afternoon of the Wells Fargo robbery. He is currently housed in the Sauk County Jail.

The lead detective indicates heroin addiction was a motivating factor in these crimes, and that the suspect is likely to face additional tentative counts for other area crimes.

Besides the K9 track, tips from the community were also instrumental in identifying this suspect, and the MPD thanks those who provided beneficial information.
