Incident Type

Incident Date

03/25/2014 - 11:22 AM

Independence Lane

Female, age 70, Madison

A Madison woman has been duped out of $4,500 after scam artists convinced her she had won $1 million in a Publishers Clearing House drawing. She was first contacted via Facebook on March 1st. Since that time, the victim has received numerous text messages and phone calls from the criminals. They told her that before she received her prize, she must first pre-load MoneyPak cards. They provided various reasons as to why this was necessary. Before the 70-year old knew she was being victimized she had taken out 10 cards and provided their security code numbers to those who were ripping her off. It wasn't until the woman contacted the real Publishers Clearing House that she realized she was being taken. Staff at PCH told her to contact police, which she did this pst Tuesday.
