Incident Date05/13/2014 - 10:30 AM
Address802 W. Badger Rd. (South Transfer Point)
Suspect(s)Male, age 31
Suspect was taken to a hospital.
DetailsTwo police officers were injured, one suffering a broken ankle, as they struggled to take a combative man off of a Madison Metro bus Tuesday morning. Witnesses said the 31-year old had gotten into a fight with another man at the South Transfer Point before boarding the bus. He suffered facial injuries. Concerned for his welfare, officers attempted to have him get off the bus, so he could be treated for his injuries, and so they could talk with him about his behavior. He refused to stand up, and instead fought with officers. An electronic control device (Taser) and oleoresin capsicum (pepper) spray proved ineffective, and it took several officers to remove the man. He was taken to a hospital for observation and evaluation. It was a MPD officer who suffered the fractured ankle. The second injured officer is with the State Capitol Police Department. He suffered knee and elbow injuries. The man with whom the suspect initially fought did not wish to pursue a complaint.
