Incident Report for Case #2014-154026

Incident Type

Incident Date

05/20/2014 - 6:41 PM

Coney Weston Place

Female, age 85, Madison
Male, age 62, Madison

Someone pretending to be a lieutenant with the Dane County Sheriff's Department attempted to scam two west side Madison residents - in separate but similar crimes - late last month.  One case involved an 85-year-old woman, the other a 62-year-old man. Both heard from "Lt. Brian Harris" who claimed to be with the sheriff's department warrants division. He told the Madisonians they had missed jury duty and that warrants for their arrests had now been issued. Of course, each could avoid jail time by immediately paying a $493 fine. The woman and man both figured out quickly that this was a scam, and they contacted the MPD. In both cases, the "Lt. Harris" was contacting victims via the phone. The number he was using - (608)293-3516 - has now been disconnected.
