Details

Madison Police responded to the 7000 block of Tree Lane reference a violent assault that had just occurred. Officers arrived and contacted a female victim who was in need of medical treatment. The female had been in contact with her former boyfriend, later identified as Ricky Burks, earlier in the evening. The female and Burks had some disagreement on child custody issues, and Burks initially refused to return the child to the mother.

Burks showed up at the mother's residence shortly after 3am, and after a brief discussion about custody arrangements, got upset, and attacked the female. There were alleged threats to kill the victim, and Burks then proceeded to drag the body of the female from the residence to the parking lot. The female was kicked and punched before Burks would run to his vehicle and flee the scene. The retreat on Burk's part allowed for the female to run back into her residence. Officers noted a significant amount of blood inside of the apartment, which was probably due to a laceration sustained by the female.

Since officers were aware that Burks was wanted on the charges listed, and did not have the opportunity to arrest him on the date of the attack, they were able to take him into custody on 6/27/2014 around 7:15pm. The arresting officer was on foot patrol, and spotted Burks walking into a building.
