Incident TypeIntoxicated/Impaired Driver
Incident Date06/22/2014 - 2:59 AM
Address100 block E. Gorham St.
ArrestedJason A. Hakim, 24-year-old male of Beloit, Wisconsin
CHARGES: Operating While Intoxicated (2nd offense)
DetailsShortly after 2:59am, a Madison Police Department Investigator was heading west bound on E. Gorham Street when he suddenly saw headlights coming at him and another suv that was driving next to his police vehicle. The investigator, trying to avert the head-on collision, sped his vehicle up, and cut of all oncoming traffic. All vehicles stopped, and the investigator moved towards the white GMC that was moving down the one way street, in the wrong direction.
The driver, later identified as Jason Hakim, had no idea why he was being stopped, and the investigator immediately noted the odor of intoxicants. Hakim attempted to answer questions, but other distinctive indicators led the investigator to believe Hakim was not in a condition to be driving. Hakim thought he was on Waukesha Street, and was going to pick up a friend. While Madison does have a street by that name, it was a considerable distance away, and on the opposite side of town. Field sobriety tests were offered, and soon thereafter Hakim was taken into custody; based on the totality of alcohol consumption and driving behavior.
