Incident Date07/02/2014 - 9:19 AM
Address3000 block of Lake Mendota Dr.
Victim(s)14-year-old female of Iowa City, Iowa
DetailsMadison Police Officers responded to the 3000 block of Lake Mendota Drive, shortly after 9:19am, reference a female swimmer in distress. Initial reports suggested that the female had a leg injury, and was clinging to a rope ladder; as she was having difficulties treading the cold water. The water was thought to be slightly under 60 degrees.
Due to a recent shoulder surgery, the female who had been playing on a rope swing in the area, was unable to pull herself up out of the water, and this led to calls being made that she was in distress. A Good Samaritan boater happened to be moving through the water channel, and assisted the 14-year-old female to safety. She was treated at a nearby emergency room with non life threatening injuries.
