Driver was arrested for 2nd Degree Reckless Endangerment, Hit & Run, Operating While Revoked, and Operating While Intoxicated - 3rd offense.
DetailsA suspected drunken driver returned to a Cottage Grove Rd. grocery store parking lot just as police were investigating a hit-and-run crash Friday evening.
The 46-year old Madison man was told to put his van in park and to turn off the engine. Instead, he put it in reverse and nearly pinned an officer between the van and a parked vehicle.
After that, the suspect did stop, and was arrested.
A witness said the driver initially drove away from the store after his van struck a parked car. He was not alone in the passenger compartment. He had a woman with him. She told police they had come to buy dog food, but took off following the crash. They then realized they had forgotten the dog food and returned to make the purchase, not knowing police had been called.
