Details

Shortly after 5:30 am on Wednesday morning, Madison Police officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of S Thompson Dr for a reported home invasion.  Two unknown men forced entry into the home.  At least one handgun was displayed during the robbery.  The two men stole cash and other personal property and fled.

No one was injured in the incident and the case remains under investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Madison Police Department.

Home invasions differ from burglaries in that a home invasion occurs when a suspect forcibly enters an occupied private dwelling. This implies some interaction between the suspect and victim. There is not a defined crime of "home invasion" in Wisconsin state statutes. In general, crimes charged as the result of a home invasion sometimes include armed robbery, burglary while armed, endangering safety, damage to property, theft among others.
Much more common is a burglary which occurs when a suspect enters into the property of another without permission and with the intent to commit a crime, most usually theft.
