Several West District officers responded to the parking lot of Woodman's Food Market, 725 S. Gammon Rd., last night after a retail theft suspect tried to start a fight with employees who wanted him to return several canisters of potato chips. As police arrived, the suspect got into a minivan. It was listed as stolen out of Rock County, and there were several teens inside. Following an investigation, it was determined a 14-year-old Madison teen had stolen the van, and a 16-year-old Madison teen was behind the wheel as it entered the Woodman's lot. Both were taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on tentative charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent. The person who stole the chips, a 20-year-old Madison man, was cited for retail theft and resisting an officer.
