A 32-year-old mother and her three children returned home to their Northport Dr. apartment over the weekend and found that a bullet had entered their home and hit the refrigerator. It went through a box of popsicles in the freezer and lodged in a wall behind the unit. Since the victim was away, she did not know when this happened, but investigators believe it could have been related the recent attempted homicide. A neighbor also thought he may have heard a gunshot in a common hallway around 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
A suspect was arrested yesterday and tentatively charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide. Jesse E. Bodie, age 29, Madison, knows the victim and there was dispute between the two men. The nature of the conflict is still being investigated by the MPD's Violent Crime Unit. VCU detectives tracked Bodie to an apartment on Ridgeway Ave. where he was taken into custody without incident. Supporting VCU were several other units: Burglary Crime Unit, North District Community Police Team, Dane County Task Force, and MPD SWAT. All worked together to apprehend the suspect without further violence. The victim remains in critical condition.
The victim remains in critical condition after being shot several times. The gun violence took place outside of an apartment complex, with the injured man found on the ground near a driveway. Responding officers provided lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived.
